Hi,I recently made the switch from Word 2000 to Word 2010, having dabbled a bit with Word 2007 in the meantime.Having used the program for about a week now, one aspect of it i'm really not impressed with is the help documentation provided. The information provided in the help files is so basic that it could never be useful to anyone other than the absolute beginner!I'm far from a novice with word, yet i've been struggling to get my head around styles and how they work, yet if I enter 'styles' into the help feature, there isn't a single article in there that explains styles in any level of detail. The same applies tolists, and about half a dozen other major features:(I can't emphasise how disappointed I am by this.

Store photos and docs online. Access them from any PC, Mac or phone. Create and work together on Word, Excel or PowerPoint documents. Downloading OneDrive means you agree to the Microsoft service agreement and privacy statement. OneDrive Support; Service Status. MS Word Help Microsoft Word is a great word processing program. But sometimes – just sometimes – when you have to get your document finished by a certain deadline, it feels like you are fighting with it!

Do Microsoft honestly think that the end user is automatically going to know the ins and outs of every single feature in Word? What worse is, the online help is basically the same information as the offlinehelp, only with a handful of 1-min long videos thrown in. The offline help included with Word 2000 was a thousand times better than this.I notice that detailed description of styles and lists in Word 2007 are included in the online help, but they're not listed under Word 2010.

Are they assuming that we're going to read the manual for an old version of our software in order to learn how itworks? Is it likely that Microsoft will be releasing updates to the help files anytime soon? I know that updates were released for the help files in 2007 edition, but not until a year or more after release, which is a long time to wait.nmb882003.

I agree that Styles are poorly explained. The only things I see are to the effect that styles will help you keep the appearance of your document uniform. There are many other things to know about them, for example what do you do when a table has a formattoo complicated for any one style? And when a doc is written and then read back in, are the styles reapplied? And the fact that the Home tab shows a few styles, it is not explained that these are Quick styles, or that the right-hand window shows all availablestyles. And it's way too hard to eliminate styles, when no application uses more than probably 5% of them.

Why isn't there a style that says, 'Do not modify this text or format.' While I'm complaining, the Restrict Editing and associated functions are not well handled. Can't import photos from iphone because device is locked. Word is amazingly complex and complete but it needs way more work. Also it crashes at least once every day.sbg.

That is a silly reply: purchase one of the many fine books. That doesn't absolve Microsoft from shipping a worthless 'help' system with the product. An example: in context of a dialog box, click the ?. Is the pop-up sensitive to the dialog? I was converting text to table and couldn't remember the precise difference between AutoFit behaviors.

After rummaging through the help's Table of ContentsI click 'Tables' and find one lonely item. In the 'Convert text to a table' section is this final statement: 'Select any other options that you want.' No descriptions. Nothing.Maybe later releases improved this, but I doubt I'll find out. I know thatearlier releases included better help than this.
